USA slips away.............

Those socialist Scandanavians have been coming out on top of all kinds of surveys, besting the late great USA in economics, quality of life, environment, personal freedom, education and healthcare. Now comes another one with the news that we have slipped again.......
US no longer technology king.
Where will it all end? At the bottom?
Will we ever live up to the image we have painted of ourselves, or is it too late?
Sure would be nice to be the best at something other than war........
oooooops, I forgot we're losing.
Well we still lead the world in weapons exports and scrap iron! Whoooohooooo!

And we have Tina Turner and you cant top that!
Steamy windows!

"Dammit. It was sent to Susan on her RNC pager and was not supposed to go into the WH system."

I just can't get enough of this stuff, it's better than the funnies!

"In one case, Mr. Abramoff sent Ms. Ralston an email on her RNC account asking her to 'pass on to Karl that Interior is about to approve a gaming compact ... for a tribe which is an anathema to all our supporters,'" and requesting "some quiet message from WH that this is absurd," Waxman wrote, quoting from the Ralston and Abramoff email exchange. "This email was forwarded to Jennifer Farley in the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs, who apparently then warned one of Abramoff's associates about the dangers of leaving a record of their communications. According to an email Mr. Abramoff received from his associate Kevin Ring: 'Your email to Susan was forwarded to Ruben Barrales and on to Jen Farley, who read it to me last night. I don't know what to think about this, but she said it is better not to put this stuff in writing in their email system because it might actually limit what they can do to help us, especially since there could be lawsuits, etc.... Just letting you know what she said.'"

Abramoff responded to that exchange, according to Waxman, writing in an email: "Dammit. It was sent to Susan on her RNC pager and was not supposed to go into the WH system."

FBI Agent Told to Keep Quiet Over Attorney Firings

An FBI agent was warned to keep quiet about the dismissal of a U.S. attorney after he told a newspaper her firing would hurt the agency's ongoing investigations and speculated politics was involved, a U.S. Senate panel heard on Tuesday.

Lam was denied resources: Why?

Letter From Washington Dana Wilke San Diego Union Tribune 3/26/07

Two weeks after then-U.S. Attorney Carol Lam ordered a raid on the home and offices of a former CIA official last year – a search prompted by her investigation of now-imprisoned former Rep. Randy “Duke” Cunningham – higher-ups at the Justice Department privately questioned whether they should give her more money and manpower.

“There are good reasons not to provide extensive resources to (Lam),” Bill Mercer, acting associate attorney general, wrote to Kyle Sampson, who was chief of staff to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales until he resigned a couple of weeks ago.

E-mails released last week by the Justice Department shed light on an interesting series of events that led to the firings of Lam and seven other U.S. attorneys.

First came the May 11, 2006, exchange between Justice Department officials suggesting Lam's removal, the day after she notified them she would serve search warrants on former CIA Executive Director Kyle “Dusty” Foggo.

It was a week later that Mercer revealed in an e-mail that Lam's situation “now has Frist's attention” – referring to then-Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, a Republican struggling to ensure his party retained control of the Senate in the upcoming November elections.

HEART OF THE MATTER

Two weeks after that, Mercer questioned the wisdom of giving Lam more resources.

The day after this Mercer missive, Sampson directed Mercer in an e-mail to have a “heart-to-heart” with Lam about “the urgent need to improve immigration enforcement in San Diego.”

“Put her on a very short leash,” Sampson wrote. “If she balks – or otherwise does not perform in a measurable way by July 15, remove her.”

A month later, Justice Department higher-ups were referring to Lam derisively, saying she “can't meet a deadline” that her production was “hideous” and that she was “sad.”

Five months later, Lam was told she was being fired.

One could read a lot into these missives, and plenty of people already have. Democrats suggest the GOP administration of President Bush was troubled by Lam's and others' aggressive investigations of corruption involving Republicans.

And one has to ask: Why would Frist, from a non-border state such as Tennessee, be intensely interested in a San Diego U.S. attorney's performance? Could it be that he was alerted that continuing investigations into GOP lawmakers could jeopardize Republican control of Congress?

And what were Mercer's “good reasons” for withholding resources from Lam? Could it be the administration feared she might use the extra money and manpower to broaden her corruption investigations of Republicans?

ISSA'S PERSPECTIVE

Then there is the perspective offered by Republicans such as Rep. Darrell Issa of Vista, who three years ago began questioning Lam's record on prosecuting illegal immigration cases – long before the news of Cunningham's misdeeds first became public.

Issa first notified Lam in a February 2004 letter of his concern that her office had released Antonio Amparo-Lopez after U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested him on suspicion of alien smuggling.

The Mercer e-mails “may show that the (Justice Department) was reluctant to provide her with those resources” if she wasn't pursuing the administration's priorities on illegal immigration prosecutions, said Issa spokesman Frederick Hill. “Perhaps Lam's record hampered her ability to secure the resources she felt she needed.”

The e-mails indicate Justice Department officials began taking Issa's complaints to heart in 2006. In a July 18, 2006, e-mail, Justice analyst Albert Steiglitz wrote that he was “skeptical” of Lam's claim that her focus on the “quality, not quantity” of prosecutions matched the administration's strategy.

“I'm not certain that this directive is part” of the Bush administration strategy, Steiglitz wrote.

No objective person sitting outside the Justice Department can know one's motivations for writing what one does in an e-mail. So perhaps House and Senate judiciary committee lawmakers are correct when they insist the motivations for the firings of the U.S. attorneys may not come to light until officials such as presidential adviser Karl Rove agree to testify under oath before the American public.

Loose Change

Found a copy of "Loose Change" stuck under my windshield wiper after the demonstration Saturday. I was glad to finally get a chance to see it after hearing so much about it. If you're not familiar with it, it deals with the theory that the twin towers were taken down by explosive charges and was all part of a plot by the government. Well I don't dispute that the government had a hand, either directly or in-directly because I am familiar with the story of Operation Northwoods and the concept of the government staging phoney attacks on US for the purpose of instigating war and I don't dispute that notion. But there is nothing legitimate to this twin tower theory. The structure of the building was such that if intense fire were to contact the floor connections at either the outer wall or the inner service tube, that there was the possibility of structural failure of the connections which in turn would cause the collapse of one floor upon another, multiplying the force as each floor pancakes onto the next one below. The movie states that steel does NOT melt at the temperatures stated for burning jet fuel, but yet disregards the fact that steel loses its structural integrity well before it reaches the molten state. If you look at pictures of burned out buildings that had steel floor and roof supports, you will see steel that looks like wet noodles. Pools of molten steel found in the sub-basement area were cited as further proof of sabotage, however, the immense pressure and friction created by the millions of tons of falling material would easily reduce the steel structure to molten state. Bend a paper clip back and forth until it breaks and then feel the heat at the breaking point and you will get a very small example of the dynamics at work. The level of friction and stress generated by the collapsing building is incomprehensible to most people, a very high magnitude. The crux of the theory is that explosive charges were placed in the basement and lower floors and the observation of light flashes and blown out windows are cited as proof. Yet all of these observations occured after the tower began it's final collapse and can be more logically explained as being caused, again by the immense pressures generated by the collapse itself.
I don't wish to excuse or to take sides with the government on this issue because I do believe that there was complicity on their part. It's just more likely to be something more along the lines of knowing of the attack and allowing it to happen, possibly even not realizing that the buildings would collapse. It's even possible that the government itself put forth the "conspiracy theory" as a means of covering up the real truth to the events, similar to the UFO theories that they started in regards to Area 51 and its real use as a weapons development center that was in serious violation of international treaties as well as environmental regulations.
Other more tantalizing questions arising from that day and cited in the movie, are the questions of how a large commercial airliner could go through the side of the Pentagon and only leave a 16' diameter hole and the lack of titanium debris ( the turbine fans and many other jet parts are made of titanium and take extremely high temperatures to vaporize) found at the scene. The evidence at the crash site in Pennsylvania of Flight 93 is also very questionable to say the least.
So see the movie if you can, since it is apparently causing quite a ruckus. But view it with a grain of salt. There are plenty of other more verifiable issues that we have with our government that if tried and proven could put many of them away for several consecutive life sentences and I don't think this distraction of the towers serves us to meet that goal. Arrest the Bush Administration for war crimes against humanity, how's that for starters?

Iraq war 4th anniversary

Well, it was another beautiful day in San Diego for what has become an annual gathering of the tribe, which by the way is getting bigger every year. As much as I enjoy being with this group, I hope this is the last one. Maybe next year we can all get together to celebrate the 1st anniversary of PEACE!

Faces in the crowd....

Love the cutie pie in the "vette"

The counter-demonstration

This lovely bunch of coconuts joined the march as it proceeded through the gaslamp district and set up their own little "counter-demonstration" in one of the far corners of the park. The jolly green giant got in the face of the lovely lady with the straw hat who turned out to be a retired US Navy officer. He was trying to tell her what war was all about and she was having none of it, being a veteran herself. The red and white t-shirt worn by the photographer says "I should be in the kitchen". Better than in the bedroom spawning more coconuts eh?

If you're not praying for Peace........

What are you praying for?
Finally, followers of the Prince of Peace are getting on the right side. Now maybe we'll get some real traction towards ending this piece of shit war and all others for now, and forever amen!
"This war, from a Christian point of view, is morally wrong — and was from the beginning," the Rev. Jim Wallis, founder of Sojourners/Call to Renewal, one of the event's sponsors, said toward the end of the service to cheers and applause. "This war is ... an offense against God."

In his speech, the Rev. Raphael G. Warnock, senior pastor at Atlanta's Ebenezer Baptist Church, lashed out at Congress for being "too morally inept to intervene" to stop the war, but even more harshly against
President Bush.

"Mr. Bush, my Christian brother, we do need a surge in troops. We need a surge in the nonviolent army of the Lord," he said. "We need a surge in conscience and a surge in activism and a surge in truth-telling."

Who would jesus torture?

Evangelicals slam torture in war on terrorism

The Christian Coalition is nothing more than a house of cards built by con men using honest ethical Christians as its base, and it appears as though the house is coming down. They have been big supporters of the war up until now and their coming over to our side is an important change. Who's to say if our protests at Shadow Mountain have had a positive effect? Lets keep it up though. Protest at a church near you. Lets get them on the side of peacemaking or split them up and get them out of the picture.

Most politicians are full of shit, but that's OK because,

Here's another version with the young ladies singing it with their daddies
Arlo and Willie
What got me started on this subject was a study I read today called
Forging a World of Liberty Under Law, U.S. National Security in the 21st Century
that confirmed a long held suspicion of mine that if the stated cost of oil factored in the money spent by the U.S. Military to protect it, then oil would be one of the most expensive forms of energy available to us here. We could probably generate electricity cheaper with hamster execise wheels for christ's sake!
So check it out....Sec 1:53 page 57 of 96
Quote: " Second, the oil we consume- at over $150 a barrel when U.S. Defense spending dedicated to keep oil flowing is factored into the price- contributes to climate change and the degradation of the environment."
