Support terrorism...buy a banana

This news is a couple of months old but it seems to have slipped in under the radar. If you're a muslim and you support a terrorist organization, you will have all of your assets seized and you will go to jail. However, if you are

a large american corporation that supports terrorists, you need only pay a fine.
In the recent court case involving Chiquita, the company was found guilty in a US court of law of paying a terrorist organization, the AUC to provide "protection" for it's employees. The AUC however is also known for killing union reps. and terrorizing employees of the giant fruit conglomorate. The extradition treaty between the US and Columbia apparently will NOT be honored despite the Columbian governments request for the US to turn over 8 Chiquita executives for trial in Columbia. In an interesting turn, the US Justice Dept.only tried the company on the payoffs and chose to ignore the additional charge of smuggling 3000 AK 47's and millions of rounds of ammunition on one of its company owned freighters. Why?

There was an article in Al Jazeera implicating Chiquita, Dole and Del Monte in the financing of the right wing para militaries that started me chasing down the Chiquita story, so it appears to be a pretty widespread practice. Think about it next time you buy a banana or a banana clip for your AK 47!
